      Jamaican-born Robert Campbell accompanied abolitionist Martin Delany on his expedition to explore the Niger Valley in to investigate the area as a potential emigration point for freed slaves.       John Hill Wheeler (–) was an American planter, slaveowner, attorney, politician and historian who served as North Carolina State Treasurer (–) and as United States Minister to Nicaragua (–).. In cases that gained national coverage in the 19th and 21st centuries, Wheeler also has become known for his association with two of his women slaves . Martin Robinson Delany (May 6, – Janu ) was an African-American abolitionist, journalist, physician, soldier and writer, and arguably the first proponent of black nationalism. Delany is credited with the Pan-African slogan of "Africa for Africans.". Born as a free person of color in Charles Town, Virginia, now West Virginia (not Charleston, West Virginia) and raised in Allegiance: United States of America, Union.
